Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Theif

Title: Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Author: Rick Riordan
Audience: Young Adult
Location: YA RIORDAN

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’s stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Percy Jackson is a good book and has a lot of action and if you like Greek myths and stuff like that, you will love this book. It is an action book. I think you will like it.

Bottom Line: I love it. It was a great book for me. If you like fiction and action, you will love it.

Remembering the Challenger

On January 28, 1986, the nation watched as the Challenger was lost just seconds after liftoff.  I remember being very excited about watching the launch of the Challenger as the first teacher was being sent into space.  My fellow classmates and I were huddled together in the 7th & 8th grade classroom to watch this historic event.  We were all chatting amongst ourselves and then finally there was liftoff!  But then tragedy struck.  Only 73 seconds after takeoff, the space shuttle Challenger exploded and we were all shocked into silence.  At first we weren't sure what happened beyond a huge explosion.  Then our worst fears were realized... the entire crew of the Challenger were killed in the explosion.  Although this was a tragic event, it did lead to safer space travel.  Here is a video from CNN from that tragic day.
